Captain Hook
A web service for generating compelling intros for YouTube videos using AI.
What is Captain Hook for?
Captain Hook is an AI tool that helps YouTube creators write good video intros, the first 15 to 60 seconds that decide whether a viewer stays or bounces. The title and thumbnail earn the click, but the intro is what holds attention. The problem is that creators find them hard to write well: knowing the whole contents of the video, they either give away too much up front and kill the viewer's curiosity, or they're too slow and too dull. The effect shows up brutally in retention: the audience graph can fall off a cliff inside the first minute.
Captain Hook solves that specific problem. Working from more than a dozen proven copywriting frameworks, it generates an interesting but not overhyped intro for your video idea, with no clickbait. It also helps you brainstorm titles and a thumbnail concept, so that all three elements work together rather than repeating each other. It doesn't generate the thumbnails themselves and it doesn't invent video ideas from nothing: it's a tool for "packaging" an idea you already have, not for finding inspiration.
Tech stack
Captain Hook is a web app built in Next.js (TypeScript), a single framework handling both the frontend and the backend. User data and logins are held in Supabase (a PostgreSQL database plus an accounts system), payments are handled by Stripe, and the product's "brain" is Anthropic's Claude API, which generates the content from the creator's loose notes.
