Focus Space Game
Focus Space Game is an idle game powered by real focus: every minute of work is light years of a spaceship's journey through real stars, so focusing regularly builds your progress instead of just counting down the clock.
What is this app for?
Focus Space Game is a bigger, more gamified version of Focus Space. Instead of simply counting down, every minute of focus becomes a light year of travel: a spaceship flies across a map of real stars close to Earth, discovering system after system as you rack up focus sessions. It solves the same problem as the first version (the phone constantly tempting you to get distracted), but adds a real stake and a sense of progress, so that focusing regularly is more than just ticking off a timer.
In the game you collect a currency (Flux) for the light years you've flown, which you trade for upgrades such as changing the interface colour, and you earn ranks, military grades that go up as your journey progresses. After each hyperspace jump you get a tongue-in-cheek description of the system you've discovered, which makes the whole thing feel more like a game than a productivity app. It's still a work in progress: the plan is to add characters, in the style of the astronaut mascots from Kerbal Space Program, who will act as a gentle nudge not to abandon the mission and leave your crew to fend for themselves.
Tech stack
Focus Space Game is a lightweight single-page app built in React 19 and TypeScript, with state management based on Zustand (including automatic saving of progress to localStorage), all tied together with Vite for fast development and production builds. The visual layer, done in a sci-fi HUD style, is built on custom CSS with no frameworks imposing an aesthetic, supported by dedicated fonts (Orbitron, Rajdhani, Share Tech Mono). The app runs entirely client-side, with no backend, which keeps deployment and maintenance simple while preserving a modern, reactive user interface.
