Focus Space

A web app that helps you focus, with a science fiction look and feel.

What is Focus Space for?

Focus Space is a focus app with a space theme. You start a session, pick its length and pull the lever, making a jump into hyperspace the way a spaceship does in Star Wars or Star Trek. For the duration of the session you can't switch to other apps on your phone: if you do, the mission ends, the cockpit is shattered and the flight is aborted. It solves the same problem as well-known apps like Forest: the phone is constantly tempting you to get distracted, and Focus Space gives you a real reason not to.

The difference is in the aesthetic. Apps of this kind usually go for plants or cartoon mascots, which doesn't suit everyone. Focus Space was made with science fiction fans in mind: the same mechanics, but with a spaceship and a cockpit, and a countdown timer framed as a hyperspace jump. This is the first, very simple version (an MVP), available as an app you can install on your phone straight from the browser, with no user accounts and no database: all settings are kept locally on the device.

Tech stack

Focus Space is a progressive web app (PWA) built with a lightweight, frameworkless approach: plain JavaScript (Vanilla JS) and CSS3, with none of the overhead of large UI libraries, which translates into lightning-fast load times and full control over every element of the interface. Vite handles the build and development layer, and the app works offline and installs like a native program thanks to a Service Worker and the PWA manifest. The whole thing is fully static, with no backend and no database, which makes it possible to host on Vercel with automatic deployment on every push to the main branch, keeping maintenance simple while staying responsive and attentive to UX detail.
